ACNE

Acne is a disease of pilosebaceous follicles which are mainly localised on the face and back and which are accompanied by seborrhea (oily and shiny skin).

The injury basically manifests itself in two phases:

  1. In an initial non-inflammatory phase, comedones are formed: closed comedones (whiteheads) and open comedones (blackheads).

  1. In a subsequent inflammatory phase, the specific lesion is represented by papules, pustules, nodules, cysts.

The bluish macules, dark post-inflammatory pigmentations, granulomas, scars, represent the outcome of the various inflammatory lesions

Causes

The causes of acne pathology can be of different nature:

  • Hormonal
  • Latrogene (from drugs)
  • From cosmetics
  • Excessive exposure to the sun and hot-humid climate
  • Stress

The most affected sites are face, back, the anterior surface of the thorax and shoulders.

Systemic therapy::

is based on the oral intake of drugs (antibiotics, antiandrogens, and retinoids).

Local therapy::

topical antibiotics, retinoic acid, benzoyl peroxide (BPO), azelaic acid, topical antiandrogens, corticosteroids.

Outpatient Medical Therapy:

Chemical peelings: application on the skin of chemical substances (alpha-hydroxy acids, salicylic acid, acetic acid, tretinoin …) conveyed by liquid products, gel, cream, or masks.

The effects of this therapy are:

  • Smoother skin
  • Brighter and clearer skin
  • Clean skin
  • A more elastic skin

The expert doctor will prescribe the most correct therapeutic protocol for each patient, a protocol that provides for home and outpatient therapy, with the aim of resolving, or at least improving as much as possible, not only the classic acne manifestations, but also any outcomes such as spots, granulomas, and scars.
